This piece forms part of the critically acclaimed exhibition and publication ‘Laoch na Laochra’ by Dara Vallely and Réamonn Ó’Ciaráin. ‘Laoch na Laochra’ deals with the ancient stories from the ‘Táin Bó Cuailgne’ or Ulster Cycle of stories and its central archetypal hero, Cúchulainn.
This artwork shows Cúchulainn in his war spasm, defending territory and people. The figure is defiant, personifying leadership and power. The loins are splattered with the royal site Ráth Cruachan. The hero is immortalised in the landscape.
