Artist’s Mark

The Artist’s mark can be more than a signature, it’s a calling card, a consistent element across all work and a symbol that this piece is complete.

Dara’s Artist’s Mark is this this small insect-like creature. The symbol relates to Midir of the Tuatha Dé Danann and his courtship with the beautiful fairy maiden Etain.

Midir took Etain as his lover, even though he was married to Fuamnach. The enraged wife turned Etain into an insect and then raised a wind to scatter her.

The insect found its way into a cup of wine and was swallowed by a Queen. Nine months later, Etain was reborn as a mortal Princess and grew to be as beautiful as she was in her previous life.

This small creature is a recurring feature in Dara’s work and is also embossed on the border of each Fine Art Print.
